For more than 15 years, the Grammy nominated Dutchman has been living to the rhythm of his own, international success. His 5 times number one position in the critically acclaimed DJ Mag's Top 100 poll has been the result of his loyalty to fans, his creativity in the studio, the perseverance with which he hosts his weekly radio show A State of Trance and the energy he transcends to the crowds in front of him. Despite the heavy pressure that comes along with being one of the world's most popular DJ, Armin has always kept his focus on the music. And that's exactly what keeps him going.
A State of Trance
The Dutchman discovered a passion for dance music by listening to mix-tapes and radio shows, and taught himself how to create his own. 20 years later, his very own radio show A State of Trance has grown out to legendary heights. Nowadays, 20 million listeners tune into his 2 hour selection of trance and progressive, every week. A State of Trance 650, the 13th birthday of the show, is being celebrated with the 'New Horizons' world tour, landing shows in cities such as Almaty, Yekaterinburg, Utrecht, Santiago, Buenos Aires, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Miami and more. A great deal of these show will be broadcast live, so that none of the ASOT fans will have to miss out on anything.
Awards & Accolades
Even a basic list of recent successes reads like a lifetime of work and the landmarks just keep coming. Aside from Armin's A State of Trance broadcasting to over 40 FM stations as well as satellite and internet radio, having more than 20 million listeners every week, his Podcast gets more than 50,000 downloads per week. His singles, albums and compilations reached high chart positions all across the globe, with single 'Save My Night' being the official anthem to Heineken's 'Dance More, Drink Slow' campaign and 'This Is What It Feels Like' ending up with a Grammy Award nomination. The music video for his single 'In and Out of Love' featuring Sharon den Adel has received more than 140 million views, making it one of the most viewed videos on YouTube. Radio show A State of Trance received the IDMA for 'Best Mix Radio Show' for 6 years in a row. Furthermore, Armin was awarded for 'Best Podcast', became the most popular International DJ at Australia's Sony inthemix DJ Poll, received the 'Gouden Harp', the highest distinction a Dutch artist can get. On Queensday 2011, Queen (now Princess) Beatrix of The Netherlands named Armin Officer in the Order of Oranje-Nassau. The Royal Distinction was handed to him after his set in hometown Leiden by mayor Lenferink of Leiden.
Albums
Armin van Buuren looks back on the success of his '76' (2003), 'Shivers' (2005), 'Imagine' (2008), 'Mirage' (2010) and 'Intense' albums. May 2013 marked the release of Armin's latest artist album, 'Intense', now nominated for the Dutch Edison Pop Award on 'Best Dance Album'. The follow-up to his 'Mirage' album features collaborations with Israeli violinist Miri Ben-Ari, Australian duo NERVO and singers by the likes of Trevor Guthrie, Emma Hewitt, Laura Jansen, Fiora and more. 'This Is What It Feels Like' ft. Trevor Guthrie, the first single of the album, was nominated for the Grammy award on 'Best Dance Recordings', as well as receiving a nomination for the Canadian Juno Awards. Whenever he's not on tour or having a daddy-day with his daughter Fenna or son Remy, Armin locks himself up in the studio. Giving meaning to his famous quote 'Don't be a prisoner of your own style', he explores the boundaries of EDM through his originals and remixes. Some of his most beloved works, such as 'Communication', 'Burned With Desire', 'Blue Fear', 'Shivers' and 'Yet Another Day', have grown into all-time favourite classics, withstanding the test of time. With remix offers flooding in, Armin has the luxury of taking on only the tracks that he really loves. His remix discography includes cult TV series 24, Danish TV series The Killing, Dutch film Nova Zembla and tracks by the likes of Krewella, Motorcycle, The Killers, Faithless, BT, Dido, Zedd, Chicane and Kerli.
